Eggless chocolate cookies

These chocolate cookies use a grand total of four ingredients. (Five, if you choose to add the salt.) I always get compliments on these and requests for the recipe.

1 1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup unsweetened* cocoa powder
1/4 tsp salt (optional)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

With electric mixer, cream butter and sugar until well-mixed. Gradually add flour and cocoa powder, mixing well. If desired, add salt.

Drop onto ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes until top of cookie is firm. DO NOT go by the color of the cookies or their spreading; these cookies don’t spread and they don’t brown. You have to go by touch.

Let stand 3-5 minutes. Remove from cookie sheet to cooling rack.

*Sweetened cocoa powder might work, if you like exceptionally sweet cookies. You CANNOT reduce the amount of sugar, however; otherwise the cookies will not set right.

This was originally on an Indian blog. The recipe has since been removed.
